A visit to Bar Vitelli, delicious Sicilian granita and fascinating catacombs
Considered one of the greatest movies in film history, a trip to its locations in Sicily is a must! The tour begins with free pick-up at your accommodation in Taormina or close proximity, by comfortable 8-seater vehicles.
The first stop will be at Savoca, an ancient medieval village. There, a visit to the fascinating catacombs of the Cappuccini Convent, in which the mummified bodies of monks and nobles from Savoca remain. Then, a visit to Bar Vitelli, where the famous scene takes place where Michael asks Apollonia’s father for her hand in marriage. The bar now hosts a small museum of The Godfather movie. Here you can also taste a delicious Sicilian granita while viewing the pictures taken during the shooting of the film.
The second stop is the picturesque town of Forza d’Agrò. There you can visit the charming hilltop church of Sant’Agostino. This featured in the second film, in the scene where Vito escapes to the US hotly pursued by Don Ciccio’s men. Forza d’Agrò also offers breathtaking views of the sea and Mount Etna. Walking the narrow alleyways give you a real sense of Sicilian life. Ending the half-day tour, you will be brought back to your destination.
